Lavatone is an experimental dark ambient, drone, and noise music project created by musician Drew Holder. Based  in Amarillo, Texas, Holder has been quietly shaping this distinct, heavily textured sonic world since 1994.

Despite a highly industrialized sound reminiscent of mechanized factory rhythmic pulses, Holder famously does not own a synthesizer. Instead, he records manual percussive elements—utilizing wood, metallic objects, and earthly debris to mimic mammoth machines, earth-boring drills, and grinding tectonic weight.

Basement Starcraft begins as a quiet set of instructions for coaxing a star into existence using breath, dust, and patience. Low drones and fragile textures circle a hidden furnace, something small but steadily growing. But, the process slips out of control. The air thickens, the sounds turn ritualistic, and the boundary between creator and creation begins to blur. By the end, the experiment has failed—but something has taken hold, still burning behind the water heater.
